Leopard's Bane
Arnica montana is a small plant with bright yellow flowers. It can be found growing in the wild in many parts of Europe, being found in grassy meadows, usually in the mountains (hence its name). It grows widely all over Europe apart from some parts of Spain and the United Kingdom. However, the plant has become harder to find especially in northern Europe, due to increased farm cultivation and overharvesting.
Arnica is one of our oldest medicinal plants and has a special place in homoeopathic medicine. It is used externally as a herbal extract and contains a number of plant substances, including a group of phytochemicals known as sesquiterpene lactones.
The most popular use of Arnica is as a remedy for bruising. However, Arnica in the form of a gel is also used to relieve aches and pain in muscles and soft tissue surrounding joints.
For external use only.
